Retention of Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel is the legal counsel for the Stanford University, Stanford Health Care, Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and the Hospitals’ physician foundations. Faculty, staff and students may not employ outside attorneys to represent or provide legal services to any of these entities. The decision to retain outside counsel resides with the Vice President and General Counsel. In addition, only the Vice President and General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and Managing Attorney and their specific attorney designees have the authority to enter into contracts for services with partner law firms.
